About the role
Job purpose
The Group Resident Engineer is the senior on-the-ground engineering authority across the group's operations. The role makes sure plant, equipment and infrastructure run safely, reliably and at the lowest sustainable cost, and that engineering projects are delivered to specification, on time and within budget.
Key responsibilities
Engineering operations and maintenance
Oversee planned, preventive and condition-based maintenance across all sites.
Track equipment availability and reliability, and act on recurring failures.
Set and enforce group engineering standards and procedures.
Project and contract management
Supervise capital and maintenance projects from design through commissioning.
Manage contractors and consultants, checking that work meets specification.
Health, safety and environment
Make sure engineering work complies with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
Lead risk assessments, incident investigations and corrective actions on engineering matters.
Prepare and manage the group engineering budget for operating and capital spend.
Find cost savings in energy, spares, maintenance and contracts.
Technical advice and reporting
Advise management on engineering risks, asset life and replacement decisions.
People leadership
Lead, coach and develop site engineering teams.
Set performance targets and identify training needs
Qualifications and experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering.
At least 10 years' post-qualification experience, with 3 or more in a senior engineering or resident engineer role.
Proven experience managing contractors and multi-site operations.
